The self-organisation of combinatoriality and phonotactics in vocalisation systems

چکیده
This paper shows how a society of agents can self-organise a shared vocalisation system which is discrete, combinatorial, and has a form of primitive phonotactics, starting from holistic inarticulate vocalisations. The originality of the system is that: 1) it does not include any explicit pressure for communication; 2) agents do not possess capabilities of coordinated interactions, in particular they do not play language games; 3) agents possess no specific linguistic capacities; 4) initially there exist no convention that agent can use. As a consequence, the system shows how 0This document is a pre-print of: Oudeyer, P-Y. متن کاملThe Paradox of Intervening in Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary addresses two points raised by Kitson and colleagues’ article. First, increasing interest in applying the Complexity Theory lens in healthcare needs further systematic work to create some commonality between concepts used. Second, our need to adopt a better understanding of how these systems organise so we can change the systems overall behaviour, creates a paradox. We seek to m...
متن کاملConsequences of using of microcatchment systems on improvement of plant indices in dry farming conditions
Abstract Present research has been executed in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiary Province during 5 years in order to develop and establish hillside orchards using rainwater harvesting catchments. The region receives 300 mm of rainfall annually and has a moderate soil texture. Towards this goal, in a rangeland with a slope of 20 percent, microcatchments were made with 5 different treatments inc...
متن کاملDecentralisation of Health Services in Fiji: A Decision Space Analysis
Background Decentralisation aims to bring services closer to the community and has been advocated in the health sector to improve quality, access and equity, and to empower local agencies, increase innovation and efficiency and bring healthcare and decision-making as close as possible to where people live and work. Fiji has attempted two approaches to decentralisation. The current approach refl...
متن کاملKnowledge Translation in Healthcare – Towards Understanding its True Complexities; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary argues that to fully appreciate the complexities of knowledge transfer one firstly has to distinguish between the notions of “data, information, knowledge and wisdom,” and that the latter two are highly context sensitive. In particular one has to understand knowledge as being personal rather than objective, and hence there is no form of knowledge that a-priori is more authoritat...
